Swubird’s Nest

Not quite sure what a Swubird is, but if this blog is any indication, apparently they are great storytellers with an abundance of diverse (and entertaining) life experiences. That is, after all, what the Swubird’s Nest blog is, and so one can only deduce that birds of a feather flock together.

Swubird’s Nest – Why You Should Go

Swubird’s Nest is a compilation of stories written by a retired US government professional with a penchant for Tom Clancy thrillers. He entertains and enlightens with stories of his life and times, offered up in snippets and snapshots that are just enough. Most of these stories don’t run overly long, which means they are easy to fit into your day, but they all offer a human element. Stories range from sad to humorous and many places in between, running the spectrum of emotion.

Summing Up Swubird’s Nest

It doesn’t take much to commit to Swubird’s Nest, as the posts are enjoyable and thought-provoking, and they are concise enough to just produce that thought or emotion. Their brevity doesn’t detract at all (and in fact, no doubt, contributes to them). And the best of all of it is that these are stories by Swubird’s own account from his “unusual life,” which makes them all the more interesting.

The Clowns Of The Science Class

ZooillogixWhere to Find Zooillogix:
Blog URL: http://www.scienceblogs.com/zooillogix/
Category: Science, Hobbies

Zooillogix

Zooillogix is the collaborative effort of two brothers, both closet-zoologists using their day-jobs in the software industry as a fitting enough cover for their real passion. This blog, the alter-ego hobby for Andrew and Benny Bleiman is their “secret outlet of forbidden passion…”

Zooillogix – Why You Should Go

The animal world really is a source of endless wonder that excites something in all of us (some more than others, as evidenced in the Zooillogix About page and in the profiles of the two brothers Bleiman). Many of us do not even know how extensive and interesting a world that can be, and so we often miss out on many of the great creatures of the world; which means we often miss out on new discoveries, news, and efforts at conservancy. But the Bleimans don’t miss a beat. On their blog, they bring us the best and most up-to-date information from the world of zoology, complete with fascinating animals, Tuataran sex scandals, first-ever ugly Aussie’s, seal climatologists, the source of the latest French Herpes outbreaks, New Englanders with a fascination for poop, and much more.

Summing Up Zooillogix

Zooillogix is a fun blog to frequent not just for the very real and interesting look at the animal world, but also (in case you haven’t guessed it by now) for the humorous presentation that takes this casual science class to a higher (and far more enjoyable) level. Come along with the Bleimans as they poke fun at some funny animals and more at themselves, and also as they deliver some news you should know from the animal kingdom. And remember—”Don’t stick your fingers in the cage!”

Neurophilosophy

Neurophilosophy is a blog maintained by a UCL graduate student studying for a Master’s degree in Neuroscience. This blog is a place for this student to explore the many interesting topics related to that pursuit, and also to theorize and discuss some of the connections between the human minds and experiences. It’s an interesting mix of science and thought that leads you to wonder just a little more about yourself and those you share the planet with.

Neurophilosophy- Why You Should Go

Our human mind is what makes us what we are, and also what makes us so diverse and complex. An interest in our own inner workings is natural, but few of us have the kind of understanding of our brain that a person dedicating life and study to it would. So a blog like Neurophilosophy presents a unique opportunity to explore the many facets of the human condition with the guidance of a very well educated tour guide. From cannibalism to athleticism, “molecules, minds and everything in between,” Neurophilosophy offers us a look at the human brain as most of us have never seen (or considered) it before.

Summing Up Neurophilosophy

Neurophilosophy is a place of interest, education, contemplation, and curiosity. It’s hard to imagine what you might learn here, but it’s safe to assume that posts here might lead you to looking at the human factor in a new way.

Change Therapy To Make Lives Better

Change Therapy

Change Therapy is the blogging work of a real psychotherapist, Isabella Mori of Vancouver. Her blog is focused much as her practice is on helping people change for the better and build better lives. On her practice page she tells us, “I’m here to assist you in creating a good life. Through conversations, we’ll figure out what works for you and what doesn’t, and we’ll find and implement solutions that will bring you more direction, clarity and joy” which she does in an insightful way.

Change Therapy – Why You Should Go

Isabella’s way is to use her vast experience and knowledge of her field to approach the many recurring themes that she sees in her practice. In addition, she approaches topics that are important to her and that she feels are important to share. Included in the regular categories are topics ranging from eating disorders, religion and spirituality, depression, and chronic pain. Posts also include common difficulties faced by clients including a lack of clarity, joy, and direction, and also guest posts from readers she has helped. To be sure, the potential for readers to identify with the topics approached is great.

Summing Up Change Therapy

Some readers are surprised to see that a professional counselor would maintain a blog, but the fact that Isabella does is a credit to her. Blogs like this expand access to good information in some very important subject areas, and also to help readers see that no one is alone. Exposure like that is sure to go a long way towards helping people get help, and towards helping people overcome their own difficulties.

Discovering British Columbia

Discovering British Columbia is a blog that is just what it sounds like it would be; it is a blog about exploring and uncovering the many spectacular things about this place and the places, people, and things to do there. KT, our guide to BC, takes us on her adventures in British Columbia as she learns about the place first-hand and works to formulate and achieve her own personal version of her 5 year plan.

Discovering British Columbia – Why You Should Go

This blog ranks up with the likes of K. Field’s Alaska blog as a way to learn about a land apart, and perhaps explore a potential destination. But KT offers a particularly unique perspective as she goes. KT was originally from England, and emigrated to British Columbia only recently because of her love of the land, which adds to everything she talks about because we are, in effect, learning all about BC as KT does. What’s more, KT is on a mission (the 5 year plan) to work her way towards a more fulfilling career in tourism and/or eco-tourism, so we have yet another added advantage of exploring a place with a real budding guide.

Summing Up Discovering British Columbia

KT’s Discovering British Columbia blog is one altogether personal, professional, and exploration. Come along with this blogger as she offers a unique perspective on the place she most wants to be.

Damien At The Speed Of Life

Damien at the Speed of Life is self-described as the “Inner monologue of a dreamer.” It’s one of the newer ventures of veteran blogger Damien Riley, who also maintains a blog of psychology and inspiration, and a blog where he uses his skill and experience as a fourth grade teacher to lend tips and tricks and things that work for parents and others important in the lives of kids. This blog was started as a personal diary, and shares much of the same air of insight and helpfulness as his other two, minus, perhaps, the topical restrictions.

Damien At The Speed Of Life – Why You Should Go

Damien Riley has a wide net of expertise, and this blog seems to be a culmination of many of them. It is part ‘get to know you better,’ part inspiration and advice ( guess a teacher can’t really ever get away from that) and part useful review where Damien talks about many of his favorite and most efficient work and time-savers, including Last.fm and Sidebar chat plug-ins. Damien has been researching the blogging field for quite some time, so it is worth a stop in at his blog if for nothing else than to glean his blogging knowledge (including this post where he lists 10 Gripes About Blogs These Days—quite a few of them are right on the mark!).

Summing Up Damien At The Speed Of Life

Damien didn’t need to start another blog, he wanted one that could be “a way to get out of my sometimes confining (though lucrative) niche of psychology and inspiration and have a freeform place to really connect with my readers on a less structured level.” It appears that Speed is fulfilling that goal, and serving as a nice round-out to Damien’s collection.

Words Are Tumbling At Writerquake

WriterquakeWhere to Find Writerquake:

Writerquake

The tag line at Writerquake reads “now the words are tumbling.” That leads you to believe that there was a time when the words just were not there. Sure enough, a glance back to Lydia’s original post confirms that this blog was started as a sort of therapeutic writing exercise at “Sending my thoughts out into word space…my last idea, really, to free myself to write.” Back in February she said she hoped it worked. Apparently it did, and the words are still tumbling for all to enjoy.

Writerquake – Why You Should Go

The content at Writerquake is a bit diverse. There are human interest posts, personal posts, historically motivated posts, and posts of a more general nature. But all the posts here are written thoughtfully, inviting you to join Lydia as she works out all the very big deals that have shaped her life and brought her, and us, to this spot today.

Summing Up Writerquake

Lydia is a writer not unlike others we’ve profiled here who has used her blog in part to work out the path that has been her life. It seems that as she’s travelled that path she’s become a passionate and well-rounded being, and her blog is her contribution to the species, encouraging others to share that care and passion.

Writing to Survive

Writing to Survive is how one woman, also a mother, is finding ways to reconcile her past and find intellectual stimulation in the midst of it all. Hers is a blog that is hard to categorize, as it is part work-in progress, storytelling, personal blog, and writing exercise. But the whole is a blog that is both entertaining and a bit unsettling, and completely engaging.

Writing to Survive – Why You Should Go

There are many things that stay at home mothers and those with an unsettled past can find to relate to on Jennifer‘s blog. What all are sure to find refreshing, though, is that Jennifer has the courage to be blatantly honest about her feelings and her place in life, in a way that is not always deemed socially appropriate (case in point, see what Jennifer has to say about being a stay at home mom); and what makes that so refreshing is that, if we are being honest too, Jennifer is far from alone—she’s only in scant company because she if forthright when others choose to wear the appropriate guise. And for those who can relate, that is empowering, too.

Summing Up Writing to Survive

Jennifer’s Writing to Survive blog is one that enjoys a bit of a multiple-personality. The diversity that that creates is endearing in its own way, making this a blog that is entertaining (in the way that all good dramas are). Join Jennifer on her journey, and maybe learn a few things about self-growth and forgiveness, and see how another has worked to come back through less than optimal experiences.

El Blog De La Sourdough

How many times have you read a funny email, or something on a website somewhere in cyberspace, and think that it would be great to post for others on your blog? But then practicality takes over and you realize that your well-focused blog may just not be the right place for this. After all, you’ve developed a unique community and it’s important to keep that readership engaged. To be sure that it is, but if only there were a place where these notable posts could live in the blogosphere…

Today, there is. On the Blog De La Sourdough, Steve Fields (a contributor on Sky’s Every Day Heroes blog) allows his ‘friend’ sourdough free access to his site where he can go post-happy with the best and worst of the web.

El Blog De La Sourdough – Why You Should Go

Sourdough has an eclectic and sometimes strange sense of humor, but overall his posts have an intelligent base behind them. They can infuriate and entertain (depending on who is reading them). Sourdough seems to have a refreshingly strong sense of self and belief, and he’s not afraid to show it with the posts that he puts forth! It’s a nice change from the waffling middle ground.

Summing Up El Blog De La Sourdough

That being said, there’s a good chance that you won’t like what you see on this blog. The beauty of blogging is, though, that we all get to explore that of interest and belief to us and then build a community around it. And either way, there’s only one way for you to know whether this is a guy you’ll love or hate, or love to hate as the cards sometimes fall. You’ll have to go over and see what Steve and his good buddy are up to in the Netherlands of Alaska and decide for yourself.
