Yesterday we took a break from blog reviews to dedicate time to the ongoing efforts to help Victoria’s bushfire vitims.  On Sean’s blog post, several of the regulars stepped up to the plate to also offer their support for the bushfire victims.  Today I’d like to bring some of these efforts to the forefront as well.

We have several bloggers, writers, and marketers, and others stepping up to offer donations of sales proceeds from their products.  Many of these are people who have already made monetary donations to the Red Cross Bushfire Appeal; donations of sale proceeds is a way that they can extend their financial suport even furhter.  Here are some of the things going on around the web and the blogosphere now to support the victims of the Victoria bushfires.

  • Super Internet Marketing Blog is offering to donate 25% of all sales proceeds of the Year of the Affiliate
  • All About Jobs is donating 60% of net sales proceeds from four of its eBooks, and in addition is giving a free gift to all buyers, a free copy of the Breast Cancer eBook–the initiative is in place for all orders up until Feb 28th
  • Nikki Shell is offering a niadra pack for sale in her online store, and donating all sales proceeds to the appeal.  Like many others, Nikki is also donating goods (as she is wihtin the affected region), and many of the commenters there have offered information for drives and collections.  This is a place worth checking out for that information as well.

In addition, the ourcommunity.com.au website has dedicated a page to the bushfire efforts, and is offering a list of ways and resources for those who would like to help.  This site is updating regularly and includes links and suggestions for a variety of donations, including donations of goods and services.

There is still a great need for monetary suport; for more information vist Sean Rasmussen‘s blog, or yesterday’s post here at Digg It.  Do note, Alex from the UK Red Cross stopped in to comment and offer a link for donations inside the UK.

There is a lot going on around the net to suport this effort, and these few are only the beginning.  If you have an appeal or a support effort to add, please feel free to do so in the comments below.  We are committed to helping these victims in any way that we can, as they begin to pick up the pieces, see to basic living needs, and move forward from this tragedy.

Bringing Business To The Green

Where to Find BusinessGreen Blog:
Blog URL: http://blog.businessgreen.com/
Category: Environment, Business

BusinessGreen Blog

One of the biggest hurdles for environmental change is overcoming the issue of economic stability and business viability. We live in a world where so much of the economy (whether it be local, regional, national, or global), is reliant in some way on dirty fossil fuels. That makes change hard for many who flounder as they try to find a way to make money and continue to thrive as they move toward greener practices. Many simply give up trying.

It’s understandable that going green with a business would be an overwhelming task. It’s understandable that those businesses would need resources and guidance. That is what the BusinessGreen Blog exists for.

BusinessGreen Blog – Why You Should Go

The BusinessGreen Blog is the blogging arm of UK Incisive Media’s BusinessGreen Website. Its mission is to be that much-needed resource for businesses so that they can continue to grow and thrive while moving towards new green, sustainable business practices. From BusinessGreen:

“Businessgreen.com is a business website that offers companies the latest news and best-practice advice on how to become more environmentally responsible, while still growing the bottom line.

Companies of all sizes are coming under increasing pressure to make their operations more responsible and sustainable. Considerations of social responsibility have become important in customer satisfaction and staff retention, in the award of contracts and in stock market valuations.

Businessgreen.com is the first publication in the UK that is dedicated to green business information.

Businessgreen.com provides companies with information on how to plan and undertake successful green initiatives that both cut costs and enhance the brand values of their organisations.”

Summing Up BusinessGreen Blog

There are plenty of green blogs and websites dedicated to greener living, but few that focus specifically on business. BusinessGreen takes environmental awareness to the next level, working to solve an important piece of the planet-protection puzzle. It’s a must-stop for business owners, but also a place where the average consumer can go for information and news from the business world to see which companies are giving it their all, and to learn about green business practices that might be brought back to businesses and employers.

Supporting Australian Bushfire Victims

It seems fitting to take a time-out from blog reviews today to steer our attention to something far more concerning–the victims of the Australian Bushfires.  This is a tragedy far too close to anyone in Australia, but one that is also reaching hearts across the world.

As many of you know, Sean Rasmussen, who created this blog, lives in Australia, although not in the location (thankfully) of the bushfires.  However, he was in Melbourne over the weekend coaching internet marketing, and so came face-to-face with the people whose lives are being threatened and destroyed; the experience was humbling, to say the very least.  Sean is using his personal success communication blog to draw as much support for these victims as possible, and I’m taking the liberty of using this other of his blogs to extend his efforts.

You can read Sean’s appeal and see what he’s doing to help over at his SeanRasmussen.com blog.  Or, if you would like to donate directly to the Australian Red Cross right now, you can do that through this link:

Donate to the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal

You can donate online, or through the mail or via telephone with a freecall number.  For those outside of Australia, the online donation system does work if you are donating from another country–I am in the United States, and I was able to very easily donate to the appeal through the secure link provided. At this point monetary donations are the most helpful, and quite probably the only way for people abroad to lend support.  For those in Australia there are additional ways to help, such as through blood donations or offers of housing or billeting for victims.   The website also has information for friends and family who might be concerned about friends or relatives in the affected areas, and who are unable to reach them.

Our hearts go out to all of those affected by this horrific tragedy.  Please lend what support you can, as we know that donations of all shapes and sizes help!

Sod Life – A Fun Twist On Reality

Where to Find SodBlog:
Blog URL: http://www.sodblog.com/
Category: Humor

SodBlog

Sometimes reality is just too much to deal with. But a little humor can go a long way in this life, as evidenced by the snarky crew over at the SodBlog.

SodBlog – Why You Should Go

Why should you go? Very simple—for a few laughs, some quirky commentary, and a reminder that not everything in life has to be taken so seriously. Sometimes a good rant or a little sarcasm is all you need to clear your chest and deal with the world. No matter what the topic, there can be humor found in it—just look at the variety of topics the snark leaders offer up at the SodBlog:

• General Sod
• Media
• Politics
• Good Sod
• Bad Sod
• Advertising
• Comics
• Games
• Nostalgia
• Food & Drink
• TV
• Tech

…and still others. Here’s what you can expect to read:

“On any given day, you can read snark-filled posts on a variety of subjects, such as politics, or entertainment, reviews of music and movies and video games, or just general slice-of-life posts on subjects…”

If you are so inclined, you can get in on the action, too. The SodBlog is the work of several volunteer writers, with a “fluid” authorship keeping things fun and interesting. Or, if you prefer, you can just jump in at the Sod Forum and release your inner snark there. And who knows…you might even find love…it’s been known to happen.

Summing Up SodBlog

This isn’t a blog you’ll want to visit with your kids (for adult language more than anything), but it might be a good one to escape from them, and the rest of what plagues your day. When it’s that time of day to relax and release, it’s time to check in at the SodBlog.

Beating Scammers At Their Own Game

Where to Find HotScams.com:
Blog URL: http://www.hotscams.com/
Category: Personal Interests, Internet Technology

Hotscams.com

An extremely unfortunate side-effect of the internet is the ease of scamming honest people out of hard-earned cash or valuable personal information. Any effort at combating that plague is one that deserves attention, indeed. The efforts at Hotscams.com fall right inline.

Hotscams.com – Why You Should Go

Hotscams.com is a community blogging effort led primarily by Jay HS. Its aim is to collect and post on the ever-growing collection of scams circling the internet. This is a collective group effort to make this blog a place where people can come to find out if that email they received is in truth a scam, and how they avoid the most potentially dangerous online farces. There are also helpful resources including an Anti-Scam guide and informational articles aimed at helping you avoid being taken (including an oldie but goodie from our own Sean Rasmussen). The site covers topics in a wide variety of arenas, including online, business, ethics, and many, many more.

Summing Up Hotscams.com

The scammers out there are getting very good at their craft. That makes it increasingly difficult to tell a legitimate offer from a bogus attempt at getting into your personal or financial information. Hotscams pulls together the collective conscience of the better people online and gives us a fighting chance against those less scrupulous.

Recap Reviews, February 7 Edition

The first week in February found some great blogs, and brought some excellent submission suggestions out of the woodwork!  Thank you to all of those who submitted a blog link for review, and please–keep them coming!  Tell your blogging friends!

Week In Review, February 7, 2009

As is the custom (at least I’m making it one), here’s a link to last week’s review in case you missed those great blogs: Week in Review, January 31, 2009.

Now, on to the latest and greatest….

  • Continuing a bit on the parenting theme that rose to the forefront last week, we had an excellent suggestion from one of our readers to review Dad’s Adventure.  This is the blog of American Greg Bishop, the creator of the well-known Boot Camp for New Dads.  There is a lot of excellent parenting advice, targetted primarily to men, but good for all, and a wealth of resources here for expecting and new Dads and parents of young children.
  • Our next review also came to us through a reader.  We were glad to be introduced to Lee Potts’ Breaking Murphy’s Law, a blog written by an expert in public presentation matters, designed to help you buck the odds and succeed wildly through education and preparation.
  • A third reader suggestion took us back to the motherland, to a blog offered for the purposes of supporting and connecting mothers to mothers.  It’s an always-on job, and one we’re glad to see 24/7 Moms helping out with.
  • For our last blog of the week, we took a walk on the tech side.  zMogo brought us their zMogo Tech Stuff blog, an information-packed blog and forum filled with additional resources and posts in gaming, SEO and web, design, gear and gadgets, and much more.

That wraps our week.  Hope you’ll all join us back here for another great week of blogs and reviews.  This week I had the good fortune of receiving some excellent blog suggestions; in fact, every blog reviewed this week came through reader submission.  All suggestions are greatly appreciated, and all you have to do is leave a comment below (or on any blog post at Digg It).

zMogo Tech Stuff – Why You Should Go

zMogo is more than a blog, it’s a destination for all things tech. A World Without Murphy’s Law?

Where to Find Breaking Murphy’s Law:
Blog URL: http://www.breakingmurphyslaw.com/
Category: Business, Personal Development

Breaking Murphy’s Law

When you’re presenting, someone is always watching you. That is the first lesson to learn at Lee Potts‘ Breaking Murphy’s Law blog. Once you know that you start to understand that there is far less room for error in this world than in most of what you do in the rest of your daily life; and so preparation for presentation takes on a whole new level of importance.

Breaking Murphy’s Law – Why You Should Go

It’s not really hard to convince presenters that preparation is a necessary stage of the game, but knowing what is really involved in that is an entirely different matter. What seems like logical and reasonable preparedness can quickly become miserably inadequate when it’s the “real thing”—just see Lee’s list of presentation principles for his take on rationality in presentation preparedness. Lee knows this first-hand. His day job is working for a Fortune 100 pharmaceutical company to prepare teams for US Federal Drug Administration committee meetings, and he serves on a number of steering committees and boards—so Lee knows his stuff. He’s seen it all and done it all, and been fortunate enough to be privy to the experiences of others and add that to his learning as well. With the help of this blog, his good fortune becomes your good fortune.

Through this blog Lee helps brings you to terms with Murphy’s Law and the world of public presentation and speaking, and then takes you further to the side of it that you’d not otherwise have considered. Then he gives you the information, tips, tricks, and advice to enable you to stare Murphy and his Law in the face, and kick it out the conference room door.

“The breaking of Murphy’s Law is not like robbing a bank, stealing a car or wearing white after labor day. Murphy’s Law is more like the law of gravity. It seems like a constant, like it’s built into the way the world works. It drags you down. You can’t really break it, but you can learn how to plan for it and how to take it into account. You can often keep it from doing damage. A lucky few even manage to escape it completely.”

Summing Up Breaking Murphy’s Law

“A trick, tip or technique learned…could be crucial to saving a meeting as well as a career.”

Lee Potts learned early in his career that sharing stories and experiences is essential to successful presentation skills. That is what he does on this blog—shares the stories and experiences of a career in public presentation, and opens the conversation up to the larger community so that all can learn from each other. If presentation or public speaking is in your future in any form, even in a behind-the scenes capacity, Lee’s blog is a place for you to start frequenting today.

The Dad’s Side Of Birth And Beyond

Dads Adventure BlogWhere to Find Dads Adventure:
Blog URL: http://www.dadsadventure.com/dadsblog/
Category: Parenting

Dads Adventure

Dads Adventure is the blog subsidiary of the internationally recognized Dads Adventure, Inc. The program got its start well in advance of the internet, and has continued on to great success, now operating an online element to offer even greater support to expecting and new fathers.

Dads Adventure – Why You Should Go

If you live in the U.S. there is a very good chance you have heard something about one segment or another of the Dads Adventure programs. This endeavor started with Greg Bishop in 1990 with the creation of the Boot Camp for New Dads (BCND) programs, which were presented in hospitals and community programs as a means of introducing and educating new and expectant fathers, and was featured in the national media a number of times; the program is now available in most U.S. states and also internationally in Japan and Italy. In 1995 the publishing element was added under the moniker of Dads Adventure, and both have continued to grow from there. More recently the parent website added this blog of the same name.

The blog maintains the same mission and goals and educational expertise that the rest of the BCND and Dads Adventure projects do, in dedication to helping fathers navigate these new and often scary waters, and in dedication to helping those fathers raise happy, healthy kids through supportive, effective, and meaningful relationships.

“Dads Adventure, Inc. is dedicated to fostering the development of role models for new fathers in their communities, neighborhoods and families by working to put out positive, constructive information and messages, as well as tools and resources that help them do the job.”

Summing Up Dads Adventure

Dads Adventure had long been serving new fathers and their families. With over 200,000 graduates of the BCND program, publishing credits, national and international recognition, and a website full of excellent resources, this is a name and an initiative you can trust.
