What’s Cooking

Food is more than just sustenance, it’s an adventure! If you don’t believe that, then you haven’t met Ben Herrera of What’s Cooking.

What’s Cooking – Why You Should Go

Ben Herrera loves to play with his food—and we love his results! He describes himself as a ‘Kitchen Adventurer’ who loves to experiment with both preparing great recipes and photographing them. It’s a love of food that he has inherited from his restauranteering family, and one he is working hard to parley into a career in food photography. That should be no trouble for Ben, either, given the quality of his amazing food photographs on his blog.

The blog itself is a dual-natured blog. Ben takes and posts those amazing food photographs, and then also shares a bit of background, story, and of course, great recipes to tell the tale. The result is an absolutely tantalizing blog that will have you running to your cabinets to see how close you can come to Ben and his creations—whether you are a fan of cooking or not.

As if all of this were not enough, the blog doesn’t even stop there. Ben has built an inviting community through his blog, and also maintains a forum at the site for food and photography talk, and also relatable topics of health and fitness.

Summing Up What’s Cooking

Ben Herrera’s blog delivers a lot more than you might expect from a food blog. From good food to great friends, this is a blog community that has it all.

Mission To Learn

Jeff Cobb is a steadfast advocate of lifelong learning; he is more than just a fan, though, he is practicing what he preaches and delivering the resources to help others do the same.

Mission To Learn – Why You Should Go

The Mission to Learn started with this blog, but has since grown into an even wider set of resources. Today, in addition to the blog, Jeff Cobb and MTL maintain a lifelong learning newsletter as well as podcasts and interviews with interesting, informative people working to expand educational opportunities; and of course, all of these resources lead to even more resources for continued learning.

What Mission to Learn works to do is open the doors to continued learning through the convenience and access of the Internet. It is not actually very heavily focused on learning and education in the traditional sense; rather, it is a library of resources that recognizes learning for what it really is—an essential life function that tends to become formalized and institutionalized, but that does not need to be. This site is a celebration and delivery system for learning in all its many forms and formats, putting the majority of its effort into helping people locate the free and low-cost, but more importantly, accessible and effective tools for lifelong learning.

On the Mission:

Mission to Learn is a destination for lifelong learners. It is for people who want to be more successful in finding and benefiting from online learning experiences.

It is important to say up front that we not necessarily focus on learning in a traditional sense. Learning is not just about courses, or schools, or teachers… Learning happens everywhere, all the time, and the Web has exploded the possibilities for all of us to reach our full potential through learning.

…We see learning as a fundamental life activity—almost on a par with something as essential as breathing—that takes place without our necessarily even being aware. We’re born with a native will to learn, and to a large extent we “just do it” throughout most of our lives. And not just individuals—organizations and societies are systems with an innate capacity for learning.

Summing Up Mission To Learn

Most people know that the web is full of all manner of learning resources, but connecting with them is something of a different story. This site not only helps you make that connection, but delivers loads more in the form of extended learning resources, motivation, and community. The site truly is on a lifelong learning mission, and you are invited to come along.

A Delicious Life Balance

Carrots ‘N’ Cake

Carrots ‘N’ Cake is a blog with something of a dual personality. It all balances out in the end, though, in the most deliciously enjoyable way.

Carrots ‘N’ Cake – Why You Should Go

Blogger Tina believes that there is a definite balance to life that allows you to enjoy it to its fullest. Her blog is proof of that. Topping off her philosophy is her love of food, but also her commitment to living well and healthfully. Tina has worked throughout both her personal and professional life to achieve a life of balance and enjoyment, without the need to feel either depravity or major guilt. Her blog is very much an effort to help you do the same as she leads by her good example.

A great portion of the blog is devoted to great food and recipes (with pictures!). Along with it, there is also a wealth of information about exercise, fitness, weight loss, and more (including some excellent reviews). Her simple approach to living well and her blog inspiration is this:

“I love food, and I love eating! While I try to fill my diet with mostly healthy foods, I have a number of favorites that are not necessarily nutritious, but are still delicious and fun to eat. If eaten in moderation, I believe that the “bad” foods can be part of an overall healthy diet. This food philosophy is the inspiration for Carrots ‘N’ Cake.

I allow myself to indulge almost everyday, so my goal is always to find a healthy balance. By posting what I eat everyday, I hope others will gain some insight into how to incorporate good nutrition and the occasional splurge into their diets.”

Summing Up Carrots ‘N’ Cake

Tina is leading us by example to a life that is enjoyable and maintainable. Through balance Tina has found, and shares, a workable lifestyle that is not built on a house of cards of depravation.

Instructify For Better Education

instructifyWhere to Find Instructify:
Blog URL: http://www.instructify.com/
Category: Education, Personal Interests, Professions

Instructify

Instructify is one blog that knows exactly what it is and what it is doing; and that is delivering valuable resources for better educational experiences.

Instructify – Why You Should Go

Led by Bill Ferris, this blog, a project of LEARN NC of the University of North Carolina School of Education, is bringing resources to teachers and educators so that they may teach more effectively. It was founded and is maintained on one simple philosophy—”Teach Smarter, Not Harder”.

Instructify is the place for educators to come to find the resources that will help them do just that—be highly effective, efficient teachers who find consistently new and better ways to help students succeed. It is more than that, too, as explained on the Instructify About page:

Instructify is where teachers can stock their toolboxes with practical, time-saving classroom ideas and cutting edge methods of instruction. It’s where to find useful, free technology to utilize in the classroom. And it’s a fun place to spend your planning period.

Instructify is also a verb. To Instructify means to find new ways to present the same old content. Or MacGyvering anything from software to Post-it notes into something you can teach with. It also works great as a command. As in, ‘Don’t just teach, Instructify!’

There are a few things that Instructify isn’t, though. The blog isn’t a place for political educational debate or to “bemoan educational policy.” That is not to say that the blog or Bill Ferris do not necessarily find any merit in these types of discussions, but just to say that there is a time and a place, and that time and place is not on Instructify.

Summing Up Instructify

Instructify has one set goal, and that is to help educators be better at what they do, and in the process enjoy that experience more. You can count on Instructify to deliver just what you come there for, and nothing that you did not. It’s quite refreshing to experience a blog that knows just exactly who it is, and so be able to have a high level of reliability in it.

It’s What’s On Your Mind

My Thinking Life

Blogger Hisham has developed a blog with a unique concept and spirit. It’s all about what’s on his mind and that of his readers and contributors, and it’s all good.

My Thinking Life – Why You Should Go

Hisham’s My Thinking Life blog is very much an open-concept blog. Its focus began loosely on any web-related topic, but quickly expanded beyond that. This is one of those blogs that does not have one narrow topical focus, but is a place for expression, development, contemplation, and learning on a larger level.

Hisham has only one goal for his blog, and that is to share knowledge. To that end he welcomes quality articles, guest posts, and tips and suggestions on a wide variety of subjects. You’ll never know what to expect next, but you can be sure that it will be interesting.

Perhaps Hisham explains his blog best in just these few words….

“… the purpose of it is sharing knowledge. It’s a captivating and sensitive mix of personal insights and international events. I hope you enjoy the stay…”

Summing Up My Thinking Life

Hisham has landed on a highly effective blog concept, one which has grown his blog into a truly global effort with an excellent community of support and participation.

Bigger, Better Self Improvement

pick-the-brainWhere to Find Pick The Brain:
Blog URL: http://www.pickthebrain.com/blog/
Category: Self Improvement, Motivation, Personal Development

Pick The Brain

Pick the Brain is taking on self improvement and motivation on the blog’s own terms—which just happens to be something bigger than your average self improvement blog.

Pick The Brain – Why You Should Go

The foundation of Pick the brain is that we are more than just a single focused topic. Effective self improvement and personal motivation comes only through attending to the whole mind and body (in a very experiential and ‘common sense’ way). To that end, there is a great deal of information, strategies, and habits and actions that affect what we do and why; and so, there are a great many topics to be discussed as you continually strive to achieve your best life and maintain it through personal growth. It is for this reason that the blog takes a very broad, community approach to self improvement—because there is hardly ever only one ‘right’ answer, or one person who knows it.

From the site:

“PickTheBrain.com diverges from traditional “self-help” by taking a broader approach. Rather than sticking to a small set of topics, the site covers anything related to self improvement. Any information that people can use to live more prosperous, satisfying lives is a potential article…

“Rather than proposing a set of easy answers, PickTheBrain recognizes the challenges involved with sustainable self improvement. The advice we provide is rooted in personal experience and common sense. This site will help you use the strength of your own mind to create the environment you need to thrive.”

To broaden the perspective and information resources for readers, the blog, maintained by the parent site which is also named Pick the Brain, is attended to by a team of regular contributors led by editor Erin Falconer. Additionally, the blog welcomes guest bloggers with quality articles of interest. The end result is a truly community-oriented blog and support center aimed to help you personalize your path to a prosperous, fulfilling life.

Summing Up Pick The Brain

Pick The Brain has taken a slightly different approach to motivation and self improvement, and in so doing has created one of the most useful, comprehensive, and effective personal development blogs on the web.

Feeding The Inner Addict

Baby Blog Addict

The first step in dealing with an addiction is in admitting you have a ‘problem’; the second is in feeding that addiction—at least if it is one as harmless and potentially beneficial as an addiction to baby blogs.

Baby Blog Addict – Why You Should Go

It seems there comes a time in every parent-to-be or new parent’s new life when baby blog addiction is almost a guaranteed thing. It’s something akin to the addiction of buying every pregnancy and baby book or magazine you can get your hands on. Only better. Baby blog addictions allow you to connect with real, live people and learn and talk and gain the support of a community of people who understand exactly what you are going through, and have a similar affinity for helping one another through this wonderful, yet stressful, phase of life.

All of this is just what the Baby Blog Addict blog was created for. Growing out of their own addiction to parenting and baby blogs, Scott and Jennifer decided to join in the fun and create a community of their own. The result is this very successful and informative blog about all things baby. You’ll find links and information for absolutely everything here with topics ranging from managing the work/family life balance to Jennifer’s personal pregnancy journal, to choosing the cutest layette ever, Dad’s diary and father’s issues, and then well beyond into the triumphs and trials of parenthood—all of that, and great giveaways, too!

Summing Up Baby Blog Addict

If you’re a baby blog addict, you’ll love this site where you can admit it loudly and proudly. If you’re not an addict yet, come along for some top information and resources from this blog, and you soon will be. Either way, this is the place for parents-to-be, young parents, and baby addicts in general to fill the void.
