Mimentum

Mimentum is an Australian-based blog associated with the Mimenta.com website. It is generally a blog that deals with topics relating to business and education, and also online information. It’s a little bit of a mixed bag with lots of life lessons of value.

Mimentum – Why You Should Go

Mimenta offers a variety of services that serve as the basis for the blog. It is described on its About page as a blog

“…derived from business consultations with small businesses in Australia. In addition, items are also sourced from Mimenta.com and Mimenta Educational Services.

Mimenta Educational Services is an Australian business, education consultancy and tutoring service specialising in EILTS , remedial English, remedial numeracy, VCE tutoring and small business counselling.”

What this translates into in practice is a blog that brings a lot to the table—down-to-earth information about business and education, mixed in with other valuable information about online business and life. What makes the blog most inviting, though, is that the information is not simply a regurgitation of business articles; it is information gleaned from experience and from life delivered in a conversational manner that clearly shows the cause and effect of the situation at hand. It’s an interesting read as well as a lesson.

Summing Up Mimentum

Although the blog is focused on business in Australia and New Zealand, the messages here are universal. They apply to life and business all over the world, because they are based on human nature and response. Regardless of where you might be, there is something for you to learn at Mimentum, too.

Where Small Business Is A Big Deal!

Where to Find SmallBizBee.com:
Blog URL: http://smallbizbee.com/index/
Category: Business, Entrepreneurs

SmallBizBee.com

SmallBizBee.com is a blog packed full of small business resources for entrepreneurs. It is the work of Matthew Ringer, a small business owner and entrepreneur many times over—a resume that makes him just right for a blog about trying and sorting and finding what works in small business.

SmallBizBee.com – Why You Should Go

As mentioned, Matthew Ringer has had a few different (successful) experiences in entrepreneurship. When he embarked on his latest endeavor, a sports-based event management company in Florida State in the U.S., he decided to put his trials, tribulations, research, and resources to work for both himself and you. He started the blog alongside his business, and continues to maintain it as a way of journaling, working out the potentials and possibilities, and sharing useful information on starting and running a small business. Regular posts focus quite a lot on the business and impact of successful business branding, along with other small business news, tips, tricks, and tools—and some insight into what hasn’t worked so well, too.

From Matthew (About Page):

“I started Smallbizbee.com as a way to journalize my thoughts about business and to chronicle what is going well and what needs improvement in my daily business life. Since I think and discuss business on a daily basis, and have a passion for seeing myself and other succeed, starting a blog made logical sense. I could help myself get my thoughts in order while helping others. It’s also a great way for me to explore different business topics and ideas, while getting valuable input from you all. “

Summing Up SmallBizBee.com

Matthew Ringer’s blog is a first-hand account of what life in the trenches is for small business owners. Better than that, though, this is a first-hand account of what works for Matthew. Notably, his experience may be different form yours, and your own path will likely twist at least a little from his, but you’ll get further for having started on a path that has been known to lead to success.

Put It Off And Get It Done

Put Things Off

As I meandered around the internet this morning looking for a good blog to review, this blog absolutely resonated with me. And then I got up, got a cookie, stood by the fire for a while, and came back to finish the review. Luckily, Nick Cernis, the author of PTO, was not offended.

Put Things Off – Why You Should Go

Nick, like so many of us, is adept at putting things off (or at least he was). And, like so many of us, he is also adept at eventually getting things done. However, what is different about Nick is that he came to learn from his experiences, and still achieve the life of his dreams. Along the way, he discovered a lot about ways to simplify life, get more done, and enjoy the ride in the meanwhile. This is what serves as the base of his blog, and also as the foundation of his book, Todoodlist. Of his experience and his blog, Nick says,

“I’m a web developer who spent almost 5 years putting off starting a business, leaving my dreams and schemes on beer mats, and reading about other peoples’ success. In late 2006 I finally woke up – I was reading more about doing things than actually fulfilling my life’s goals…

I started Put Things Off to share the tips and advice that I’d found useful in a light-hearted, alternative, no-nonsense format, and to give people of all ages the knowledge to transform their lives, work independently and successfully chase their dreams.”

Summing Up Put Things Off

Put Things Off is a blog that takes the stress out of being productive, by acknowledging the humanity of it all, proposing simple solutions that don’t take more time than they save, and interjecting a whole lot of humor into the mix. The blog is easily justified as productive learning, but will leave you smiling every time as you go about your task of finally mastering the science of the work-life balance.

Shining Light On Con-Men Of All Sorts

Where to Find Con Man’s Blog:
Blog URL: http://www.legalthriller.blogspot.com/
Category: Personal Interests, Business

Con Man’s Blog

Jack Payne, author of the Con Man’s Blog, is not new to writing—he’s been authoring business books for more than 25 years. To date, he has 55 in print in various formats, with over 1.1 million copies sold and the right to claim best-selling author status. That’s a heck of a resume for the average blogger.

Con Man’s Blog – Why You Should Go

All that business writing experience has led Jack Payne to retirement and back, and now he shares the darker side of business in his blog, which is also in part a serial version of a portion of his new book, a legal thriller novel called Six Hours Past Thursday. He describes the motivation behind the novel and the resulting blog as this:

“I came out of retirement to write my first novel, Six Hours Past Thursday, for a specific reason. During my long business writing career I observed just about every scam, con game, and type of fraud known. Just had to write about it.

To warn others.”

The blog that Jack has built is largely a consumer-beware site in which Jack continues to reveal and explain con after con, how to avoid them, and how each works. His narrative style makes these easy and interesting reads, revealing a true novel author behind the blog.

Summing Up Con Man’s Blog

Jack Payne’s Con Man’s Blog is a whole lot of things rolled into one; it’s a consumer protection site, an informative niche blog, and an entertaining online thriller, hosted in one easy location with new stories to tell by the day.

Bringing Business To The Green

Where to Find BusinessGreen Blog:
Blog URL: http://blog.businessgreen.com/

BusinessGreen Blog

One of the biggest hurdles for environmental change is overcoming the issue of economic stability and business viability. We live in a world where so much of the economy (whether it be local, regional, national, or global), is reliant in some way on dirty fossil fuels. That makes change hard for many who flounder as they try to find a way to make money and continue to thrive as they move toward greener practices. Many simply give up trying.

It’s understandable that going green with a business would be an overwhelming task. It’s understandable that those businesses would need resources and guidance. That is what the BusinessGreen Blog exists for.

BusinessGreen Blog – Why You Should Go

The BusinessGreen Blog is the blogging arm of UK Incisive Media’s BusinessGreen Website. Its mission is to be that much-needed resource for businesses so that they can continue to grow and thrive while moving towards new green, sustainable business practices. From BusinessGreen:

“Businessgreen.com is a business website that offers companies the latest news and best-practice advice on how to become more environmentally responsible, while still growing the bottom line.

Companies of all sizes are coming under increasing pressure to make their operations more responsible and sustainable. Considerations of social responsibility have become important in customer satisfaction and staff retention, in the award of contracts and in stock market valuations.

Businessgreen.com is the first publication in the UK that is dedicated to green business information.

Businessgreen.com provides companies with information on how to plan and undertake successful green initiatives that both cut costs and enhance the brand values of their organisations.”

Summing Up BusinessGreen Blog

There are plenty of green blogs and websites dedicated to greener living, but few that focus specifically on business. BusinessGreen takes environmental awareness to the next level, working to solve an important piece of the planet-protection puzzle. It’s a must-stop for business owners, but also a place where the average consumer can go for information and news from the business world to see which companies are giving it their all, and to learn about green business practices that might be brought back to businesses and employers.

A World Without Murphy’s Law?

Where to Find Breaking Murphy’s Law:
Blog URL: http://www.breakingmurphyslaw.com/
Category: Business, Personal Development

Breaking Murphy’s Law

When you’re presenting, someone is always watching you. That is the first lesson to learn at Lee Potts‘ Breaking Murphy’s Law blog. Once you know that you start to understand that there is far less room for error in this world than in most of what you do in the rest of your daily life; and so preparation for presentation takes on a whole new level of importance.

Breaking Murphy’s Law – Why You Should Go

It’s not really hard to convince presenters that preparation is a necessary stage of the game, but knowing what is really involved in that is an entirely different matter. What seems like logical and reasonable preparedness can quickly become miserably inadequate when it’s the “real thing”—just see Lee’s list of presentation principles for his take on rationality in presentation preparedness. Lee knows this first-hand. His day job is working for a Fortune 100 pharmaceutical company to prepare teams for US Federal Drug Administration committee meetings, and he serves on a number of steering committees and boards—so Lee knows his stuff. He’s seen it all and done it all, and been fortunate enough to be privy to the experiences of others and add that to his learning as well. With the help of this blog, his good fortune becomes your good fortune.

Through this blog Lee helps brings you to terms with Murphy’s Law and the world of public presentation and speaking, and then takes you further to the side of it that you’d not otherwise have considered. Then he gives you the information, tips, tricks, and advice to enable you to stare Murphy and his Law in the face, and kick it out the conference room door.

“The breaking of Murphy’s Law is not like robbing a bank, stealing a car or wearing white after labor day. Murphy’s Law is more like the law of gravity. It seems like a constant, like it’s built into the way the world works. It drags you down. You can’t really break it, but you can learn how to plan for it and how to take it into account. You can often keep it from doing damage. A lucky few even manage to escape it completely.”

Summing Up Breaking Murphy’s Law

“A trick, tip or technique learned…could be crucial to saving a meeting as well as a career.”

Lee Potts learned early in his career that sharing stories and experiences is essential to successful presentation skills. That is what he does on this blog—shares the stories and experiences of a career in public presentation, and opens the conversation up to the larger community so that all can learn from each other. If presentation or public speaking is in your future in any form, even in a behind-the scenes capacity, Lee’s blog is a place for you to start frequenting today.
