What Mission to Learn works to do is open the doors to continued learning through the convenience and access of the Internet. Instructify is one blog that knows exactly what it is and what it is doing; and that is delivering valuable resources for better educational experiences.

Instructify - Why You Should Go

Led by Bill Ferris, this blog, a project of LEARN NC of the University of North Carolina School of Education, is bringing resources to teachers and educators so that they may teach more effectively. It was founded and is maintained on one simple philosophy—”Teach Smarter, Not Harder”.

Instructify is the place for educators to come to find the resources that will help them do just that—be highly effective, efficient teachers who find consistently new and better ways to help students succeed. It is more than that, too, as explained on the Instructify About page:

Instructify is where teachers can stock their toolboxes with practical, time-saving classroom ideas and cutting edge methods of instruction. It’s where to find useful, free technology to utilize in the classroom. And it’s a fun place to spend your planning period.

Instructify is also a verb. To Instructify means to find new ways to present the same old content. Or MacGyvering anything from software to Post-it notes into something you can teach with. It also works great as a command. As in, ‘Don’t just teach, Instructify!’

There are a few things that Instructify isn’t, though. The blog isn’t a place for political educational debate or to “bemoan educational policy.” That is not to say that the blog or Bill Ferris do not necessarily find any merit in these types of discussions, but just to say that there is a time and a place, and that time and place is not on Instructify.

Instructify has one set goal, and that is to help educators be better at what they do, and in the process enjoy that experience more. You can count on Instructify to deliver just what you come there for, and nothing that you did not. Our educators get our undying respect at this blog, as many of you already know. This is one educator who has certainly earned that respect, both for her dedication to her students and profession and for her willingness to go above and beyond her calling.

Bellringers - Why You Should Go

Carol Richtsmeier is going above and beyond the ‘normal’ lessons of the classroom and teacher education, and teaching the lessons that one can only learn one way—by doing. Her blog is by a teacher for a teacher, and for parents and anyone else who is interested, and it’s all about the tips and tricks that they won’t teach you on a teacher inservice day. It’s life’s lessons and the reality of teaching, all rolled into one—and it’s very good stuff!

As for topics, they are quite diverse; after all, isn’t that the reality of life? But there is always a moral and always something new to learn. More than that, though, they are all infused with Carol ‘Richie’ Richtsmeier’s energy and passion for life, living, and education. It’s a passion that is infectious, and if you can get through her profile without a smile, I’d be thoroughly surprised.

Steven Terjeson considers World War II to be the world’s greatest war. Certainly, it has many lessons to teach to us all—many lessons of extreme importance that should never be lost at any cost. Terjeson is doing his part and more to ensure that does not happen. He maintains this site in part as a hobby of interest, but in larger part as an easily accessible, ongoing history lesson and project to keep the knowledge of the past alive.

In his own words, Terjeson describes his site:

“World War II History (WWarII.com) is dedicated to preserving and promoting the history and historical value of the greatest war.

Our main goal is to collect and record WWII information including photos, documents, related past and present news, and equipment details. It is a project, hobby, and dream to build and to share.”

In building his blog, Terjeson has created a unique format. Largely, posts go day by day and deliver interesting facts about the war for that date in time. In many ways, it’s a little like reliving the news of the day, although certainly nothing could compare to what the many soldiers and families experienced at the time.
