A Celebrity Snarkfest

Snarkstress

Thus far we’ve steered clear of the celebrity element around the blogosphere in our blog reviews, but there comes a point in time when you can no longer deny the entertainment value in “evaluating” celebrity hi-jinks and fashions and enjoying someone’s part in bringing them back down to earth a bit. For our first such blog review, the Snarkstress seems a fitting entrant.

Snarkstress – Why You Should Go

There are two basic reasons to frequent the Snarkstress blog:

• For the pure, uninhibited entertainment of it all.
• For the vicarious venting the Snarkstress provides.

Yes, we all know celebrities to go too far, and even those of us who deem ourselves too “mature” to engage in such snarking need to feed our inner Snark now and again. The Snarkstress fits the bill quite nicely, with her humorous doses of reality and criticism of celebrity craziness. Why does she do it? To set the world straight.

“The Snarkstress has an impeccable taste for fashion. When style falls short she isn’t afraid to point out every painful little detail. When celebrities dress in the morning, they have one thing in mind: impressing The Snarkstress. From red carpets to partying in the city to grabbing milk at the corner store, no style is safe from The Snarkstress’s unwavering gaze, so celebrities… beware.”

Summing Up Snarkstress

The Snarkstress is a fun blog that keeps you up on all the fashion do’s and (more often) don’ts of the celebrity world. Hey—someone had to say it! And the Snarkstress is doing it with style and wit. Kick back, relax, and have a few laughs at the expense of some of the world’s most prominent figures.

Go here to feed your inner Snark and check out Snarkstress.

For The Love Of The Horse

Thoroughbred Fever

If I was a betting person I’d want to take definite consideration of Thoroughbred Fever and what writer Jarrod Horak has to say. After all, his blogging and current career started with invested race winnings (in a computer back in 1996). In this biz timing is everything, and it seems Jarrod has hit it head on a number of times.

Thoroughbred Fever – Why You Should Go

Alas, I am not a betting kind of girl, and so my interest in Jarrod Horak’s blog comes more from a love and admiration of the horses on the scene than anything. It’s hard to deny the power and beauty of the world’s best thoroughbred racers. In either case, if you love thoroughbreds, you’ll love this blog. It’s everything racing, including handicaps and predictions, recaps, news, and more. What’s even better is the quality and experience behind it, and seeing the world of racing through the eyes of someone who has been following racing for at least 13 years. (Of course, we make no recommendations as far as betting goes…we bring you the goods for a blog of note based on its quality and interesting content).

Summing Up Thoroughbred Fever

Jarrod Horak is living his passion and inviting you in to share it with him. For your love of horses,

SodBlog

Sometimes reality is just too much to deal with. But a little humor can go a long way in this life, as evidenced by the snarky crew over at the SodBlog.

SodBlog – Why You Should Go

Why should you go? Very simple—for a few laughs, some quirky commentary, and a reminder that not everything in life has to be taken so seriously. Sometimes a good rant or a little sarcasm is all you need to clear your chest and deal with the world. No matter what the topic, there can be humor found in it—just look at the variety of topics the snark leaders offer up at the SodBlog:

• General Sod
• Media
• Politics
• Good Sod
• Bad Sod
• Advertising
• Comics
• Games
• Nostalgia
• Food & Drink
• TV
• Tech

…and still others. Here’s what you can expect to read:

“On any given day, you can read snark-filled posts on a variety of subjects, such as politics, or entertainment, reviews of music and movies and video games, or just general slice-of-life posts on subjects…”

If you are so inclined, you can get in on the action, too. The SodBlog is the work of several volunteer writers, with a “fluid” authorship keeping things fun and interesting. Or, if you prefer, you can just jump in at the Sod Forum and release your inner snark there. And who knows…you might even find love…it’s been known to happen.

Summing Up SodBlog

This isn’t a blog you’ll want to visit with your kids (for adult language more than anything), but it might be a good one to escape from them, and the rest of what plagues your day. When it’s that time of day to relax and release, it’s time to check in at the SodBlog.

Drinks After Dark

Somehow reviews for drink- and cocktail-inspired blogs just seem so fitting for the weekends. By now few of us probably have much energy left for complex intellectual blogs, and are no doubt open to blogs that help us wind down and enjoy the after hours a little more. In the past we’ve reviewed beer blogs and wine blogs, but today we take a broader vision to a blog that covers a bit of it all. Colleen Coplick’s Drinks After Dark offers a wider range including cocktails, beers, and wines.

Drinks After Dark – Why You Should Go

Drinks After Dark isn’t just about drink recipes, it’s about anything and everything related to drinks of choice and cocktails. That includes cooking with beer and wine, posts about how to buy and enjoy various drinks and liquors, gadgets and collector’s items, reviews, and stories about cocktails in the news. There’s really a lot more to know than you might imagine, and this blog is an informative and interesting resource.

Inquisitive, Eclectic Storytelling

This Eclectic Life

Technically Shelly Kneupper Tucker‘s blog is a personal blog, but when you are a professional storyteller, very little of your personal life escapes the eyes of your profession; and so it is that This Eclectic Life is an eclectic mix of storytelling life [in Texas], and curiosities.

This Eclectic Life – Why You Should Go

Blogging was Shelly Kneupper Tucker’s answer to an addiction to online Mahjongg. But like so many addictions, blogging simply became her new addiction—but one that so seamlessly fit into her storytelling life. It’s a blog that gives Shelly pause to quench (temporarily) her inquisitive nature, and extend her storytelling gift to the world. If you are wondering still what the blog is about, Shelly would only have this to say:

“So do I…

It is simply a collage of topics that intrigue me. Scroll through the articles and you will see that nearly everything does. I’m curious about anything and everything, and think the rest of the world should be inquisitive also.”

Summing Up This Eclectic Life

With [unnecessary] apologies for her sassy Texan nature, Shelly entertains and delights with her enthusiastic takes on life. Stop on by and ask her to Spin Me A Yarn. And just try not to catch Shelly’s infectious nature.

What Does This Song Mean To Me?

Music means different things to different people. Individual pieces mean different things to different people, too. Just what a single piece means to various individuals is an interesting topic, one that Kelly at What Does This Song Mean to Me decided to explore in depth.

What Does This Song Mean To Me? – Why You Should Go

The personal meaning of a variety of sings is the focus of Kelly’s posts. She poses this question, but also wants to know, “Better yet, what does it mean to you?” Kelly understands that music evokes different thoughts, feelings, emotions, and memories for everyone, and offers us her blog as a place to share and discuss. It’s an interesting take on a universal theme, and one that is proving to be a quite popular concept. Plenty of people are getting in on the act at this still young blog, and enjoying exploring the meaning of music with a diverse crowd.

Summing Up What Does This Song Mean to Me?

Kelly has done a very good job of creating a blog based on a simple and meaningful concept. She’s also done well to make that a place of interest by tying her selections into everyday life and events, and to make us laugh with the too true gems she finds around the ‘net (some of your guys may enjoy commiserating with this guy who really misses his hair). Kelly’s is a truly unique blog concept that is as entertaining as it is thought-provoking. It’s as up-beat as she seems to be, a great place to stop by for a song and a comment, and to learn what your music may mean to someone else.

Cooking With Anne

Food is one of life’s simplest pleasures. But enjoying good food seems so hard sometimes, doesn’t it? Wouldn’t it be nice if there was a place where you could chat with a friendly face, enjoy the passion of another, and learn once and for all how to prepare and enjoy good food easier? Wouldn’t you love your own personal guide to the realistic culinary life?

Lucky for you (and for me) there is such a place, right here on the world wide web. That place? Cooking With Anne.

Cooking With Anne – Why You Should Go

Anne is our guide to the livable culinary world at her blog, Cooking With Anne. She is a stay-at-home-mom with a serious need for good, healthy food‚Äîshe’s got 7 mouths to feed and keep happy! That can’t be an easy task, but somehow Anne does it with flair and style. She offers mouth-watering posts that span the exotic to the everyday, including recipes for such treats as Fried Squash Blossoms (who knew?) and Strawberry Milkshake Popsicles.

Anne really loves what she does and it shows. She treats us to photos and tales from her garden as she teaches us how to enjoy foods from all over the world, and also locally-grown fair that’s fresh and green.

We found Anne here at Cooking with Anne, but there are other places to find her, too. She is also a writer for Disney at Short Order Mom, and keeps interested readers up to date with the more personal side of her life at The Rest of Me (incidentally, Anne and her family have gone through some serious trauma in the past year; you’ll find her blog even more impressive and inspiring when you learn more about her and find out just how impressive her cooking and blogging talents are when weighed against the rest of her life!).

Summing Up Cooking With Anne

Enjoying good, fresh food should not be something that only haughty, arrogant Chefs from Hell should enjoy. Great food is something everyone should know, and Anne makes it possible for the regular guy or girl to do that. She teaches as she expands our culinary horizons, and does much of the work for us as she explores and experiments, and then reports back with the best of what she finds.

Find Out What’s Behind the Vines

Behind The Vines

Although we love what Brew Ha Ha is doing, we can’t all be beer lovers, can we? So here’s a review for the wine-at-hearts: Behind the Vines.

Farley Walker writes the Behind the Vines blog, and brings to this blog a love of wine along with a healthy dose of experience and knowledge in the subject. Farley works in a winery in California wine country, where she works and lives her “Wine-Colored dream,” and passes the time by learning to make vinegar and ricotta cheese (hey, what’s wine without cheese, right?).

Behind the Vines – Why You Should Go

In recent years many authors and much of the wine-producing community has striven to bring back the love of wine to the masses. But the mystery and attitude surrounding the enjoyment of fine wines has made many hesitant to jump in. Farley is one who is working to demystify wines, wine enjoyment, and the wine-making process by sharing her knowledge and love of it. Her aim is to invite anyone and everyone with an interest in wines in, and “get you that much closer to finding out which wines are right for you: based on dinner choices, the weather, or maybe the mood you‚Äôre in‚Ķ”

There is nothing snobby about the blog; it is a place where everyone should feel comfortable learning and contributing. Farley’s conversational tone and free-flow of insight make this blog just that kind of place.

Summing Up Behind the Vines

As Farley says, wine is not all about “statistics and facts and chemical balance.” There is a personal side to enjoying wine (fine, cheap or otherwise), and that is what Farley brings to us. Where a brew won’t do a bottle might, so learn what you might want in that bottle from Farley Walker; you’ll find her Behind the Vines.
