Shrink Rap is not the blog you would expect from a child psychiatrist, but then again when you consider the claims to fame of Robin Altman, MD include a love of shoes, a sideline as a stand-up comedian and a book titled Shrink Rap – An Irreverent Take on Child Psychiatry, you can expect her blog to be something a little out of the ordinary.

Robin Altman‘s Shrink Rap blog is a bit outside the realm of ordinary. And that is exactly what makes it so endearing. The blog is a mix of friendly and funny child-rearing advice, stories from her own household (which you will surely find refreshingly familiar), and general observations on life. The name is a bit perplexing, until you read the E.B. White quote at the bottom of the page: “Analyzing humor is like dissecting a frog. Few people are interested and the frog dies of it.” That, in essence, is the inspiration behind Dead Frog – A Comedy Blog. The blog, written by Todd Jackson (whose claim to fame is 10+ years in the comedy business and positions that include Editorial Director for Comedy Central’s web arm and Managing Editor of Cracked Magazine) is an “attempt to raise the bar in how people talk about comedy.”

As writer Todd Jackson says, “Comedy is very binary by nature: funny or not funny. But there are shadings and, with some insight, an appreciation can be found for something that didn’t make you laugh before. Or even better, the next time you see a show or performer you didn’t get, you’ll laugh yourself silly.” Hence, reading this blog can help you expand your comedic horizons, and help you look at comedy from different vantage points. How many times has this happened to you (quite likely on your very own blog)—you’re reading the comments on a blog post, and come across something so funny you’re stitched with laughter. So it is with relief that we find a blog where the writer has created an outlet for what would otherwise become creativity lost and wasted; in a world of topically-dedicated blogs, Don’t Feed The Pixies offers a refreshing break from the norm.

Not quite sure what a Swubird is, but if this blog is any indication, apparently they are great storytellers with an abundance of diverse (and entertaining) life experiences. That is, after all, what the Swubird’s Nest blog is, and so one can only deduce that birds of a feather flock together.

Swubird’s Nest is a compilation of stories written by a retired US government professional with a penchant for Tom Clancy thrillers. He entertains and enlightens with stories of his life and times, offered up in snippets and snapshots that are just enough. Most of these stories don’t run overly long, which means they are easy to fit into your day, but they all offer a human element. Stories range from sad to humorous and many places in between, running the spectrum of emotion.

It doesn’t take much to commit to Swubird’s Nest, as the posts are enjoyable and thought-provoking, and they are concise enough to just produce that thought or emotion. Their brevity doesn’t detract at all (and in fact, no doubt, contributes to them). And the best of all of it is that these are stories by Swubird’s own account from his “unusual life,” which makes them all the more interesting.

How many times have you read a funny email, or something on a website somewhere in cyberspace, and think that it would be great to post for others on your blog? But then practicality takes over and you realize that your well-focused blog may just not be the right place for this. After all, you’ve developed a unique community and it’s important to keep that readership engaged. To be sure that it is, but if only there were a place where these notable posts could live in the blogosphere…

Today, there is. On the Blog De La Sourdough, Steve Fields (a contributor on Sky’s Every Day Heroes blog) allows his ‘friend’ sourdough free access to his site where he can go post-happy with the best and worst of the web.

Sourdough has an eclectic and sometimes strange sense of humor, but overall his posts have an intelligent base behind them. They can infuriate and entertain (depending on who is reading them). Sourdough seems to have a refreshingly strong sense of self and belief, and he’s not afraid to show it with the posts that he puts forth! It’s a nice change from the waffling middle ground.

That being said, there’s a good chance that you won’t like what you see on this blog. The beauty of blogging is, though, that we all get to explore that of interest and belief to us and then build a community around it.
