Tiny Farm Blog

Tiny Farm Blog is the ongoing story of one man’s foray into organic farming and gardening. The blog is all about the process and the pleasure of getting back to nature and growing it into a marketable hobby.

Tiny Farm Blog – Why You Should Go

Tiny Farm Blog is one of those blogs that proves that there are people out there really “doing it”. The farmer (who remains anonymous in an effort to focus on the farming and not commercialize his blog) started with next to no gardening knowledge, and after eight years had grown his small farm into enough of a success that it required a move to a bigger and better location. The farm is organic all the way and making it happen with minimum tools and maximum effort—an effort that for this farmer is all reward.

Posts on the blog are a daily chronicle of farm planning and activities, complete with photos and detailed step-by-step accounts. In addition, the blog extends into other areas of learning and interest such as how to get started in microfarming, politics and related news, and learning resources for gardening, storage, and beyond.

Summing Up Tiny Farm Blog

The Tiny Farm has big heart, and is an excellent information resource for people interested in similar projects. It is also an excellent learning resource for people who may not have the means or desire to undertake this type of project themselves, but who like to see how things work. There is also quite a lot to be learned here about the real story behind where your food comes from and the meaning of certain labels and marketing tactics. All in all the blog is an interesting read and a unique educational experience.

Subjectify

Subjectify is the blog outlet for blog creator Lexi to share her passion and opinions on modern portraiture. Unlike most photography blogs, however, Lexi comes to her reviews with a unique perspective, taking the subject of the portrait as her target for analysis, and focusing less on the portrait itself.

Subjectify – Why You Should Go

Lexi describes Subjectify as

“a photography blog, where the “subject” in contemporary fine art portraiture is discussed, represented, gazed upon, thought about, linked to, photographed, questioned, personified, objectified, idealized, commented on, rephotographed, interacted with, gallerized, imagined, pygmalionized, storied, stripped, redrawn, blinked at, analyzed, admired, stumbled upon, half-perceived, retreated from, disdained, recreated, considered, etc., from a subject-oriented position. Maybe”

The blog really is all of this. Lexi takes what can arguably be considered the most important aspect of any photo or portrait and discusses at length with an intelligence and knowledgeable experience. It’s clear that Lexi knows quite a lot about the subject of modern photography and portraiture, as well as the history of the media and its field. Although Lexi does accept submissions for review, all subjects are treated equally and given unbiased, thoughtful consideration which comes through in Lexi’s posts.

Summing Up This Subjectify

For the knowledgeable photography student or enthusiast, Subjectify offers a fresh base for discussion and shared interests. For the less studied, it offers a place to come and explore the world of modern portraiture and learn more about modern photography and perspective. This is a blog that offers “something for everyone,” so regardless of your personal experience with photography, stop in and enjoy this fresh perspective.

An Earthly Photo Celebration

A Photo A Day From Planet Earth

A Photo A Day From Planet Earth is the work of Rich from Oxford, England. Inspired by his friend’s Oxford photoblog, Rich decided to take the idea global and create a blog where contributors would send in photos from points all around the globe. The result is a highly successful blog and supportive blog community, all working together in appreciation of the planet we call home.

A Photo A Day From Planet Earth- Why You Should Go

The premise of the blog itself is very simple. Contributors from all over the world are invited to send in their photos, with a minimal requirement of location details and preferably a short description of the location and/or events. Submissions are accepted via email or via a dedicated Flickr group, and then chosen and posted by Rich. From that well of submissions, Rich selects and posts a new unique picture each day. Submissions have come from all corners of the world and include some fantastic takes on life and photography.

Summing Up A Photo A Day From Planet Earth

“I think I wanted to launch an experiment in randomness, do something truly global and collaborative, and just see where it went.”
–Rich, in an interview with Free Photo Resources

That quote is a good summation of what this blog is—it is a global effort that illustrates the random, diverse, and eclectic nature of life on Earth which has grown into a truly collaborative community effort, giving us all the opportunity to enjoy a new view of our planet.

Getting To Know The Faces Of Autism

Faces of Autism

When you put a face on a condition, it has a way of becoming not only more real, but more understandable as well. That seems to be the foundation of Cadok’s blog, Faces of Autism. She is raising awareness of Autism and Spectrum Disorders by putting real, live, faces in action to the condition for all the world to see.

Faces of Autism – Why You Should Go

Casdok is a UK mother of a 20 year old son with autism, who is also non-verbal. Her contribution to Autism Awareness is her blog, which is a collection of photos and artwork from autistic children and adults around the world, each accompanied by a short description of the subject and his or her likes, interests, abilities, and talents.

Casdok‘s simple blog premise is a highly effective one. These photos and few short worlds tell worlds about the people living with autism and all that they can do. As an outsider many of these faces an abilities might surprise you…the face of autism is not always what you expect it to be; but then, that is the point of the blog, to better educate the rest of us to the realities of autism.

Summing Up Faces of Autism

Casdok has developed a very simple and highly effective way to put a real face on autism (many, actually!). This is a blog that deserves a much wider audience than just those living within the autism community. The real gift of this blog is the potential to educate the rest of us, and so it is us who needs it more than the proud and laudable contributors. Stop by this blog and see for yourself how different autism can look.

In Cinq With Yourself

Where to Find In Cinq:
Blog URL: http://incinq.blogspot.com/
Category: Photography, Community Blogging

In Cinq

In Cinq is a very unique community blog project created by Adria Balgassi. Adria was inspired by her younger sister’s poem—a simple cinquain describing her father. She decided to go global with the concept via a self-portrait blog, and the result is In Cinq.

In Cinq – Why You Should Go

The concept for In Cinq is simple—people from around the world are invited to contribute self portraits, which are largely photographs but can also be sketches, paintings, etc. Along with it, contributors are required to include a simple cinquain describing themselves in nine words. You need not be a poet, the contributor guidelines are quite simple, with an interesting result.

The interesting result is a collection of portraits and snapshots of people from around the world, each being self-described in a concise and focused way. The concept appears to have taken off quite nicely, with contributions from seemingly every corner of the globe. From a reader perspective, this photoblog is interesting and entertaining, and a quick, easy read. The cinqpic format allows you to learn just enough about the contributor and/or his or her mood at the time, ad make up the rest of the story from the poem and the accompanying picture.

Summing Up In Cinq

Adria Balgassi’s inspiration in a child’s poem turned out to be quite an interesting blog project. Visit Adria’s project for some glimpses of life around the world, or contribute your own (anonymous contributions are accepted as well). It’s a unique pairing of the “visual and the literary” with a highly effective result.

Nature Remains

When all else is said and done, at the end of the weary day, when things are going well or not-so-well, there is always nature remaining. It is a haven for blogger Nina, who shares her forays into her haven with the rest of us through her blog, Nature Remains.

Nature Remains – Why You Should Go

Nature Remains is a work of love for Nina. In fact, I’m not sure that it’s “work” so much as it is therapeutic, or simply living, but at any rate her passion for the natural world of Southwest Ohio, USA, is obvious. Nina steals every free moment she can to be out in nature, capturing the moments through her photos and poetic posts. You can find Nina

“…Grabbing every minute I can find to be outside–walking in it, sleeping in it … breathing it in. The natural world has so much beauty to uncover. It is my hope that by capturing my experiences with nature and by sharing the richness it adds to an ordinary life, others may discover the greatest gift waiting just outside their door.”

Summing Up Nature Remains

Nina’s blog is calming and inspiring. Her photos are fantastic, and the creatures and scenes she captures are nothing short of wonderful. Nina has an apparent eye and patience for the natural world uncommon among most, but that perhaps we can learn through her example. Be inspired by Nina and her natural world, and get out to enjoy your own!

What I See Out My Window

The name of the blog almost says it all. What I See Out My Window is the blog space that Anthony has created for people to share their views of the world. It is what Anthony sees out his Canton, Ohio, USA window, and what his readers and contributors see from windows all around the globe.

What I See Out My Window – Why You Should Go

Anthony’s blog is a very original type of photoblog. Anthony has set a stage where people can share a part of their lives. That part may be one you take for granted more often than not, but also one that in its simplicity communicates a lot about who you are and where you are from. This simple, unique blogging concept helps us all gain a better view of life all over the world, sharing and admiring the places we call home.

Anthony’s blog has but a few rules. Anyone can contribute a photo from their home or office or vacation window (but not a vehicle window). To have your photo posted, simply use the contact information on the blog and submit your photo with a few lines of explanation to Anthony, and he’ll take it from there. You may even find yourself coming up a winner in a monthly poll.

Summing Up What I See Out My Window

Anthony’s blog concept is simple, original, and ingenious. With an open forum and a few snapshots, Anthony is helping people experience life through the eyes of others, and opening up vistas of the small and intimate places of the world.

Digital Immersions

Stephen Frink, author of Digital Immersions, has many credits to his name. He is Director of Photography for Scuba Diving magazine, a published author, and one of the most frequently published underwater photographers. He also runs his own self-named School of Underwater Digital Imaging, a work that serves largely as the base of his blog. With a resume like that, (and that’s just the beginning) it’s hard to imagine him having time to blog, too. But he does, and his craft is our gift at his Digital Immersions blog.

Digital Immersions – Why You Should Go

The resume sort of clears up this question, but to be more specific, Stephen‘s blog is first and foremost a place of education. He uses it in many ways as an extension of his imaging school as a way to reach out to a larger audience and share his tips and techniques with a more far-reaching crowd. If you’ve any interest in underwater photography, this is a blog for you.

That aside, this is a place to go even if you have no interest in ever snapping a single pic of the underwater world. As mentioned, Stephen is a true professional, and the blog is worth going back time and again just to enjoy the sites. The images Stephen captures are nothing short of amazing, and something few of us will ever have the fortune to experience.

Summing Up Digital Immersions

Stephen’s blog is worth your time, for all the reasons mentioned here. Go for the facts or go for the fun, but prepare to be entertained either way as you see things from this diver’s eye view.

Digital Photography School

Darren Rowse is probably best known for his ProBlogger blog, one that we’ve reviewed here before. Darren is a man of many talents, though, one of which is digital photography. That passion he shares for the benefit of us all at his Digital Photography School blog.

Digital Photography School – Why You Should Go

It’s not a formal school—there is no attendance taken, no punishment for being late, so newcomers are always welcome. The “school” is a blog that exists simply to help others make the most of their digital photography experiences. It grew from another site Darren maintained which focused largely on the cameras themselves. After many requests for tips and pointers, Darren decided to start this blog where he could focus on the kinds of information he was constantly being tapped for. Darren explains the blog and its intended audience in this way:

“I’m a digital photography enthusiast and while it’s not how I make my living (although I do pick up a few paying jobs) – I’m the guy in my friendship group and family that always seems to photograph the special occasions. I’m still learning and improving my photography but like to share what I’ve learnt so far.
Over the two years of that site I had a lot of emails from readers asking for tips on how to use their cameras and came to the conclusion that while there are many millions of digital cameras being bought each year around the world that a very large proportion of those that buy them could be using them to achieve better results…

…Some of you who are advanced digital camera users might find some of what is written on this site a little basic, but it’s the new to semi experienced digital camera owner that this site is aimed at. Having said this, even experienced users have already told me that reading the tips I’ve written have been helpful in refreshing their memories and reminding them of lessons once learned.”

Summing Up Digital Photography School

Darren Rowse’s Digital Photography Blog is an excellent place to go for any who wish to make more of their personal photography, regardless of your level of experience. Join Darren and pick up some great tips and easy fixes for creating ever-better digital photographs you’ll be proud to share.
