Dead Frog – A Comedy Blog

The name is a bit perplexing, until you read the E.B. White quote at the bottom of the page: “Analyzing humor is like dissecting a frog. Few people are interested and the frog dies of it.” That, in essence, is the inspiration behind Dead Frog – A Comedy Blog. The blog, written by Todd Jackson (whose claim to fame is 10+ years in the comedy business and positions that include Editorial Director for Comedy Central’s web arm and Managing Editor of Cracked Magazine) is an “attempt to raise the bar in how people talk about comedy.”

Dead Frog – A Comedy Blog - Why You Should Go

As writer Todd Jackson says, “Comedy is very binary by nature: funny or not funny. But there are shadings and, with some insight, an appreciation can be found for something that didn’t make you laugh before. Or even better, the next time you see a show or performer you didn’t get, you’ll laugh yourself silly.” Hence, reading this blog can help you expand your comedic horizons, and help you look at comedy from different vantage points. It’s like art appreciation, comedy style. And truly, the insights are interesting (as well as entertaining). The blog is a source of surprising food for thought into comedy and its place and affect on culture.

Just as importantly, though, the blog is just plain fun. There are plenty of laughs to be had in the videos, sketches, skits, and scripts, making this a place as much to be entertained as educated.

Summing Up Dead Frog – A Comedy Blog

It’s surprising how in-depth a subject can be, especially one, like Todd says, that seems so simplistic on the surface. Read this blog for a new appreciation of the world of comedy, and as an extra, a daily dose of funny.

Rob’s Megaphone

Rob’s Megaphone is Rob Stevenson’s place to let his voice be heard‚Äîboth his expert writing voice and the voice of his comedic, slightly skewed sense of humor. The goal of his blog, courtesy of Rob’s About page, is two-fold in nature; his mission is:

1. to post about writing - specifically trying to make learning about grammar and writing fun, and
2. to post funny, interesting stuff.

If he can pull the first off that is quite an accomplishment. But his posts tagged funny prove that the second has been definitely achieved, which can only mean he’s off running to accomplish goal number one.

Rob’s Megaphone - Why You Should Go

Better writing skills and a better command of the English language is something that everyone (writing in English, of course) could use from time to time. With the proliferation of social media and the WWW in general, writing skills are taking on a new level of importance, which only means that blogs that help us communicate better are taking on more importance.

That being said, I have to say (as one who writes herself), that the best reason to visit Rob’s Megaphone is the funny stuff he comes up with. Really, it’s hard to imagine where one would find with all this stuff. One of the Megaphone staples is the silly news, some of which is just plain odd and entertaining, and some of which is just plain scary when it gets down to it. Nevertheless, there are plenty of laughs to be had.

Summing Up Rob’s Megaphone

Rob Stevenson, who by profession is a Mass Communications professor and writer (so one can only hope he’ll go easy on the critique here), really does seem to know his stuff‚Äîboth the writing “stuff” and the funny stuff, too. Go see Rob for your regularly scheduled English writing and grammar lesson, or to have a few laughs. You won’t be sorry you did.

Bleem-Filk: Cyberculture At Its Best

Bleem-Filk. Out Of This World

Bleem-Filk is the creation of Donny, a man from an outerworld destined to spread humor and faith through his computer generated animations. It’s primarily an outlet for Donny to display his impressive animations, poking fun into American politics and more. Donny is a legend in the Stumbleupon arena of social networking and cyberculture while it’s at its very best.

A quote taken from an excerpt from fellow stumbler, Aashika may best describe Donny and what he does…

Let us dash reality into pieces and fly away on the wings of the nightwind”. An escape from reality describes Bleem-Filk to a ‘T’.

Bleem-Filk - Why You Should Go

There are not a lot of opportunities to head off to worlds unknown or to talk with the inhabitants of them. Little did we know that here in cyberspace such an opportunity already exists!

You’ll enjoy Donny and his tales of Bleem-Filk if you need an escape from your day, but there is also a dose of reality to be had on this site (or at least, a skewed take on reality and politics). Donny doesn’t actually say much on his blog, but uses the site as a place to post his creative animated works of computer-generated art. The outcomes are impressive, and the takes are worth a great many laughs.

Donny has more serious interests, too. He is deep into his Christianity and culture, and links to more Stumble pages which further cast insight into this interesting blogger. In addition to his blogged creations, Donny offers up StumbleUpon pages linking to comedians, WNBA (Women’s Basketball) articles and highlights, and videos meant to churn the mind and start your day off thinking.

Summing Up Bleem-Filk

Bleem-Filk is a blogging experience rivaled by few, if any. This is a place where the less tech-oriented can gain an appreciation of the knowledge and abilities of others, and to also find links to an eclectic group of bloggers and resources, wide-ranging in interest.

Donny, whatever you’re having, I want some! Keep up the good work.

Go and check out Bleem-Filk for yourself. Maybe stumble his page.

Following The Quest For Comedic Stardom

Standup 101 with Comedienne Lucy DeeWhere to Find The Quest for Comedic Stardom:

The Quest For Comedic Stardom

The Quest for Comedic Stardom follows New York’s Lucy Dee as she sets off on her life’s mission to become a top-billing comedienne. According to her MySpace profile, Lucy is 100 years old, which can only lead one to believe that she’s seen and done a lot, and has lots to laugh about on her blog.

Lucy offers her blog as a “fly-on-the-wall P.O.V. into the life of a stand-up comedienne.” Now that sounds like things could get interesting.

The Quest For Comedic Stardom - Why You Should Go

The simple answer? Because everyone needs to laugh, everyday. And Lucy is good for lots of laughs, even when the topic is something a bit foreign to you. Lucy is well-spoken and witty, injecting her humorous take into everything she writes.

Lucy’s interests, and thus the posts on the Quest, are eclectic and varied. Her interests are listed as: “Indie rock and pop/dance music, comedy, stand-up, storytelling, film, writing“; this covers most of what Lucy posts on her blog (but it’s a pretty comprehensive list anyway…).

Lucy also posts about her newest pursuit, a website that she intends to use to outline “The Academics Behind Comedy” and serve as the “Online stand-up comedy resource.

The best reason to visit the Quest for Comedic Stardom is to gain that promised insight into the life of a developing stand-up comedian. Whether you are interested in becoming a comedian or not, the journey makes for an interesting read that helps the reader gain an appreciation of the work and hurdles of budding entertainers, and interestingly enough a lot of the fears and trials Lucy faces and deals with are not unlike those in ‘regular’ life.

Summing Up The Comedic Quest

As a resource for potential comedians and entertainers, Lucy’s blog (and promised website) are an unparalleled resource. As a place to take a comedy break, Lucy’s blog is that, too. Make this blog a regular stop for some good info, and an interesting (and entertaining) take on life; and if stand-up comedy is a dream for you too, make sure you follow Lucy’s blog. You’ll get a front-row seat to prepare you and benefit from the research and knowledge that Lucy has already gained.

I first met Lucy on Stumbleupon and I’m glad I did. Do yourself a favor and get to know her.

Go and check out The Quest For Comedic Stardom for yourself and digg it (if you like).
