The result is a site that makes for interesting reading and great recipes, too. The author grew up in Brazil, and now lives in New York, giving her a wide variety of baking and culinary experiences to share.

Carrie’s Kitchen Creations is a cooking blog created out of the author’s love for food and photography. Basically, the blogger, Carrie McClain, makes beautiful food and takes gorgeous pictures of it. However, she includes the recipes so that you can make some of this beautiful food yourself. And, once you try one, you’ll realize that the food is not only beautiful, it’s delicious too. She also has guest bloggers from time to time who can provide good insight about healthy living and environmentally friendly eating.

But does all this make sense? Can’t you just search YouTube yourself and do all this? Yes and no. If you have nothing else to do but to weed through the riff-raff, sure. Following along in the footsteps of Clara’s economically-inspired cooking blog, I’ve come across a more modern, but equally tasty, take on budget cooking. You can find it, too, at Erin Chase’s $5 Dinner blog, where she’s cooking up great eats on a budget, and giving you every last tool to follow along and save some dough on some dough (sorry for the pun, couldn’t resist :)).

$5 Dinners - Why You Should Go

Why should you go? Very simple. I think I’ve already told you. But it does bear repeating, and detail.

Erin Chase is a Mom living in the real world, who has risen to her self-imposed challenge of minimizing her household food budget and coming up with great meals on a budget. Every dinner that Erin prepares really is managed on a budget of $5 (set of course, in her home region), and no, it’s not dinner for one—Erin is married and has two young children, and is feeding her family nightly on $35 or less each week. Need proof? Erin’s got it. She puts her money where her mouth is and outlines the cost of all prepared foods, along with the recipe and shopping strategies. This is a great time of year to start exploring a cooking blog, for a number of reasons. First, like Katherine, many people are using the spirit of the New Year to form better eating habits, or meet a health and lifestyle goal. Second, it’s a time when we’re coming off of a season of food favorites, and comfort-foods tend to be all the rage. And third, it’s always a good time for great food and exploring new ingredients and recipes.

One of the best things about Katherine’s blog is that it’s focus is on the enjoyment of food, while capturing the peripheral benefits. Yes, she does keep a food journal, but not for the express sake of dieting, and yes, attention to good food does lend itself to better eating overall, but Katherine never loses sight of the sheer joy of cooking and eating great fare.

Thyme For Cooking

It’s been a while since we’ve reviewed a food and cooking blog, which is primarily what drew me to Thyme For Cooking when first I came across it. What drew me in, well, that was something different.

Thyme For Cooking - Why You Should Go

From the name, you might expect Thyme for Cooking to be an online recipe book of sorts; and if that is what you go looking for you will not be disappointed in the least. Not only does the blog offer up a new mouth-watering recipe by the day—complete with pictures—but it also comes complete with a parent website of the same name dedicated to healthy, delicious, easy daily menu planning.

However, the real surprise of the blog is the one-two punch that it packs. It is written by Katherine Lerum Zeller, an expat who has spent the last 10 years abroad in Ireland, Andorra, and now France, collecting as many stories as she has recipes—possibly more. Each post is preceded by an amusing and entertaining story, which ends, quite naturally, with the dish of the day.
