This Eclectic Life

Technically Shelly Kneupper Tucker’s blog is a personal blog, but when you are a professional storyteller, very little of your personal life escapes the eyes of your profession; and so it is that This Eclectic Life is an eclectic mix of storytelling life [in Texas], and curiosities.

This Eclectic Life - Why You Should Go

Blogging was Shelly Kneupper Tucker’s answer to an addiction to online Mahjongg. But like so many addictions, blogging simply became her new addiction—but one that so seamlessly fit into her storytelling life. It’s a blog that gives Shelly pause to quench (temporarily) her inquisitive nature, and extend her storytelling gift to the world. If you are wondering still what the blog is about, Shelly would only have this to say:

“So do I…

It is simply a collage of topics that intrigue me. Scroll through the articles and you will see that nearly everything does. I’m curious about anything and everything, and think the rest of the world should be inquisitive also.”

Summing Up This Eclectic Life

With [unnecessary] apologies for her sassy Texan nature, Shelly entertains and delights with her enthusiastic takes on life. Stop on by and ask her to Spin Me A Yarn. And just try not to catch Shelly’s infectious nature.

The Art Of Practice

Honour, author of The Art of Practice, understands that life is about more than just accumulating knowledge—it is also about the practice and use of that said knowledge; and without one, the other is useless. And so it is that we have Honour’s blog, a blog about life and lessons learned, observations and practices, offered through conversation and poetry and storytelling, with a strong emphasis on the human element and human interaction.

The Art Of Practice - Why You Should Go

Honour is a character of interest because she harbors a distinct love/hate relationship with the internet and technology. Like so many she sees it on one hand as the innovative communication tool and outreach opportunity that it is; but on the other it is yet another thing that allows us to distance ourselves from living.

That same love/hate conundrum is what led her to blogging in the first place; that, and a disdain for the diced and chopped snippets that human interaction is becoming through dominant social networking sites. Her solution to the problem as she sees it is blogging: “I figure if I’m going to stay in touch with people via the electronic media, I might as well make it as human as possible. Expose you to all of life’s ups and downs - my hopes and my fears (paranoias?) - all of my wishes and reflections. You might as well know the semblance of who I want to be or how I delude myself into thinking who I am … no categories, no checkboxes, just a stream of consciousness.”

Summing Up The Art Of Practice

Much of what Honour brings to us is contemplation, delivered in the various formats listed above. This is a refreshing way to spur you into thought while being entertained a bit along the way, without the pressure of too much discussion, with the benefit of a thoughtful poem or story. And a refreshing reminder that there is more to life than knowledge and electronics, and that living is a real, careful balance of these and many other factors.

Tales From The Swubird’s Nest

Swubird’s Nest

Not quite sure what a Swubird is, but if this blog is any indication, apparently they are great storytellers with an abundance of diverse (and entertaining) life experiences. That is, after all, what the Swubird’s Nest blog is, and so one can only deduce that birds of a feather flock together.

Swubird’s Nest - Why You Should Go

Swubird’s Nest is a compilation of stories written by a retired US government professional with a penchant for Tom Clancy thrillers. He entertains and enlightens with stories of his life and times, offered up in snippets and snapshots that are just enough. Most of these stories don’t run overly long, which means they are easy to fit into your day, but they all offer a human element. Stories range from sad to humorous and many places in between, running the spectrum of emotion.

Summing Up Swubird’s Nest

It doesn’t take much to commit to Swubird’s Nest, as the posts are enjoyable and thought-provoking, and they are concise enough to just produce that thought or emotion. Their brevity doesn’t detract at all (and in fact, no doubt, contributes to them). And the best of all of it is that these are stories by Swubird’s own account from his “unusual life,” which makes them all the more interesting.

Writing To Survive

Writing to Survive

Writing to Survive is how one woman, also a mother, is finding ways to reconcile her past and find intellectual stimulation in the midst of it all. Hers is a blog that is hard to categorize, as it is part work-in progress, storytelling, personal blog, and writing exercise. But the whole is a blog that is both entertaining and a bit unsettling, and completely engaging.

Writing to Survive - Why You Should Go

There are many things that stay at home mothers and those with an unsettled past can find to relate to on Jennifer’s blog. What all are sure to find refreshing, though, is that Jennifer has the courage to be blatantly honest about her feelings and her place in life, in a way that is not always deemed socially appropriate (case in point, see what Jennifer has to say about being a stay at home mom); and what makes that so refreshing is that, if we are being honest too, Jennifer is far from alone—she’s only in scant company because she if forthright when others choose to wear the appropriate guise. And for those who can relate, that is empowering, too.

Summing Up Writing to Survive

Jennifer’s Writing to Survive blog is one that enjoys a bit of a multiple-personality. The diversity that that creates is endearing in its own way, making this a blog that is entertaining (in the way that all good dramas are). Join Jennifer on her journey, and maybe learn a few things about self-growth and forgiveness, and see how another has worked to come back through less than optimal experiences.
